Would you like to make your teaching or team activities more meaningful, inspiring and sustainable — for yourself, for the people you work with, and for the planet? Are you looking for practical ways to bring nature’s well-being effects into everyday learning and working life? Perhaps you dream of moving learning beyond classroom walls into forests, parks and other real-life environments that strengthen connection with nature and biodiversity.
Nature as a Best Friend is an inspiring Erasmus+ course in Helsinki that offers concrete tools, ideas and methods for biodiversity education and education for ecological sustainability. During the course, you will explore green competencies, nature literacy and hands-on pedagogical approaches that support both environmental awareness and human well-being.
During this course, you will:
- Improve your understanding of biodiversity, nature’s well-being impacts, nature literacy skills and how those are tied to sustainability education.
- Try out various inspiring methods you can directly apply in your own teaching.
- Gain practical tools for biodiversity education.
- Learn how to use authentic learning environments in your teaching.
- Exchange with and learn from other teachers from all over Europe.
- Learn how to do Nature actions.

For whom? The course is applicable for all teachers working in basic, secondary, vocational and adult education. The methods introduced during the course can be applied to many different age and target groups. We also welcome all professionals in the field interested in the course topics.
Where? In Helsinki, Finland, and nearby environments.
By whom? SYKLI Environmental College is a national specialist vocational college. We train professionals in different sectors to take concrete steps towards sustainability. Our aim is to build green competencies and increase the quality of sustainability education at all levels of the education system and throughout society. In Finland, SYKLI is known as a pioneer in environmental and sustainability education. SYKLI is the only institution in Finland offering a one-year-long study program in Environmental Education for teachers and other education professionals, as well as programs in Circular Economy, Water Management, Carbon Neutrality and Sustainable Development.

Course fee
The course fee depends on the duration of participation and whether the participant’s organisation has an Erasmus+ grant. The fee includes training, training venues, coffee breaks and certificates. It does not include accommodation, meals, entrance fees to learning environments, local transportation or mobility during the training.
For participants with an Erasmus+ grant, the course fee is based on the Erasmus+ course fee grant of 80 € per day:
- 3-day course: 240 €
- 5-day course: 400 €
- 7-day course: 560 €
For other participants, the course fees are:
- 3-day course: 330 € + VAT 25.5 %
- 5-day course: 490 € + VAT 25.5 %
- 7-day course: 650 € + VAT 25.5 %
If you have applied for an Erasmus+ mobility grant for fewer learning days, please let us know. We will invoice you according to your participation.
