What if education could be one of the most powerful drivers of sustainability transformation?
Join us in Helsinki to explore practical frameworks, sustainability competencies and inspiring pedagogical approaches for integrating sustainability into adult education. During this three-day international course, you will discover how sustainability can be embedded into educational organisations, teaching practices and everyday learning experiences.
Through practical examples, collaborative learning and real-life Finnish case studies, participants gain tools for supporting learners in developing the competences needed for a sustainable future.
What will you learn?
During this course, you will explore key frameworks for sustainability education and deepen your understanding of sustainability competencies and their role in adult education. Through workshops, discussions and outdoor learning experiences, you will examine how education can support sustainability transformation and help learners develop the knowledge, skills and values needed for a sustainable future.
You will also gain insights into place-based and experiential learning approaches, reflect on human–nature connectedness, and learn from a Finnish example of implementing a sustainability roadmap in the TVET sector. By the end of the course, you will have practical ideas and inspiration for integrating sustainability into your own educational practice and organisation.
Course content
Participants will engage in sustainability competence workshops, outdoor learning activities and discussions on human–nature connectedness.
The course also presents a Finnish case example of implementing a sustainability roadmap and creating systemic change for sustainability in the TVET sector, offering practical ideas for integrating sustainability into educational practice.
Course trainers
Ulla Myllyniemi is an outdoor education expert and environmental education specialist at SYKLI Environmental College. She is a class teacher, special needs teacher, trainer and lecturer with extensive experience in outdoor and environmental education, inclusive pedagogy and teacher training.
Katariina Mustonen is a special needs teacher and qualified principal. She has nearly 20 years of experience teaching teenagers, teachers and school staff. She specialises in pedagogy, inclusion and educational equity.
Elina Hinkkanen is an environmental educations specialist. She focuses on biodiversity and nature impact evaluation and training. She is the lead coordinator of a major national project for systemic change for sustainability in Finland implementing the sustainability roadmap for TVET. Elina has extensive experience in adult education and project management in the field of biodiversity, environmental education and participatory methods. She is dedicated to strengthening professionals’ connection with nature across all fields.
Training institution
SYKLI Environmental College is a national specialist vocational college in Finland. We train professionals in different sectors to take concrete steps towards sustainability.
In Finland, SYKLI is known as a pioneer in environmental and sustainability education. Our aim is to build green competencies and improve the quality of sustainability education at all levels of the education system and throughout society.
Course fee
The course fee depends on the duration of participation and whether the participant’s organisation has an Erasmus+ grant.
For participants with an Erasmus+ grant, the course fee is 80 € per day:
- 3-day course: 240 €
- 5-day course: 400 €
- 7-day course: 560 €
For other participants, the course fees are:
- 3-day course: 330 € + VAT 25.5 %
- 5-day course: 490 € + VAT 25.5 %
- 7-day course: 650 € + VAT 25.5 %
The course fee includes training, training venues, coffee breaks and certificates. The fee does not include accommodation, meals, entrance fees to learning environments, local transportation or mobility during the training.
If you have applied for an Erasmus+ mobility grant for fewer learning days, please let us know. We will invoice you according to your participation.
